Twitter

Twitter is a social networking website, which allows their users to send instant short messages that are up to 140 characters. The website was founded by Jack Dorsey, Evan Williams, and Biz Stone in July 2005, in San Fransisco.  It has now 19 millions accounts that contribute to 65 millions messages, or referred to as ‘tweet’, on a daily basis.

What stands out from Twitter is the access to current news feeds and spontaneous comments, or tweets.

Internet users do not have to sign up to be able to follow the comments posted on Twitter.  Since these comments could be marked to be viewed by the users’ selected audience, networking on Twitter could be as private or as public as they wish. Should a user wish to follow other user’s tweets, they must then subscribe to this particular user’s page. In recent time, this is how celebrities and other influential people gain fans and generate further followers.  One of the most exciting parts of networking on Twitter would probably be the indirect race to reach as many followers as you can.
