Communication Technology

In a world surrounded by technology, how do we choose between adequately educating ourselves for the sake of keeping with the hip and happening crowds, and not loose the real meaning of having a face-to-face conversation?

I am sure that most of us are thankful for this communication technology that has allowed us to search, decide, purchase, receive and use products all completed within such short time frame. We also appreciate the easy access it provides to connect with our family and friends, and give us the opportunity to witness our baby niece grow. This is the wonderful side of networking on the Internet. But how do restrict on what matters are acceptable to discuss or comment? How do take control on keeping our personal happenings private? Facebook

Facebook was launched by Mark Zuckerberg, then aged 19, in February 2004. The website was known as thefacebook.com for the next year, until in August 2005 when it was called Facebook. It is one of the biggest social networking websites generating 250 million users by 2009 and five hundred million users at present.

Facebook has since continued to generate popularity encouraging the website to build an even more accommodating and rewarding service to their members. Started of a media for students at Harvard University to get to know each other, Facebook was opened for the general Internet Public by the end of 2005. With the obtained success and such big potential, the website had attracted major investors to contribute to this achievement and the coming development. In 2007 Microsoft invested 246 million dollars to the company, which was worth 1.6 % of the share, and was an incredible amount on top of the initial 40 million dollars investments from a number of other contributors. Social Network

Social Network could be described as a structure that reflects the dynamic of individuals within the social context, with regard to the type of relationship connecting these individuals. Networking could occur amongst families, friends, colleagues or even publics within their parts as citizens of a country. It was also explained that social network captured various backgrounds based on what role each individual plays, the likeness of views and opinions, being members of the same institutions, family ties, or even as simple as friendships.

It was also stated that the common view of this social network, along with the individual’s contribution to the network, presented a noteworthy role on how a particular network think, behave, and connect to the social others outside their network. As the attitude of networking involves exchange of information, individuals are interacting upon positive and negative influences. A study also revealed that it was more beneficial for an individual to have connections with more networks than to have more connections within one network. Similar tendency also applies to networks that are more opened to outside influence, hence taking into considerations opinions from those around their network, in comparison to a network that keeps value to themselves. If enriching knowledge is the case, loosely connected network would be more prepared to grow, rather than ‘reserved’ network, which are content with their existing attributes, knowledge and characteristics.  [Read more...]

The Wonders of Technology

In the vast moving trend of the business world, human kinds have relied greatly on technology. Let’s face it, there is technology for everything and whether we want to or not, we feel somewhat obligated to educate ourselves with this so called practicality. Yes, we must agree that ‘practical’ is the appropriate word to describe what one can achieve using technology. It is ever-evolving and continuously simplified for the sake of the ‘simple’ people of the targeted market, and it offers just about any product and service one can imagine. With regard to the most utilized technological equipment, it would be fair to suggest that the Internet is amongst the top spots.

We can do just about anything on it, from ordering our weekly food shopping to purchasing a luxury tropical holiday. All with one click of a button! We can receive information about what is happening on the other side of the world, as well as the latest friendly gossip of the neighbour on the other end of the street. Would it be wise to say that technology has saved us and therefore we are able to complete so many tasks with so little time, gain so many acquaintances through so little effort? Or is it directing us, slowly but surely, to a place where it is not necessary to put a name to the face and that social skills are no longer required to socialize?

It is without a doubt an interesting subject to discuss. One may use the Internet purely for work purpose, then distract entirely from it by engaging in technology-free outdoor activities, while others depend on it to do nearly everything in their daily lives. I have been told that it is almost correct to conclude dependency on surfing (or any other related activities) the internet as an addiction. One just has to do it, every time, anywhere. From personal experience, I have actually witnessed the highly available technology to be the sole reason for face to face communication to be going to extinction. I was quite surprised to see the beautiful young couple sitting across the table from us in a restaurant on a beautiful Sunday morning only exchanged words when they needed to settle the bill. During the rest of the meal, one was texting, the other on his notebook. [Read more...]
