Bookmarking

Bookmarking refers to a web application that allows users to mark certain web pages or addresses, for the purpose of retrieving these pages at a later time. Once these web pages have been selected, they will be allocated to particular folders for future returns. By using this simple system, users would be able to access previously visited pages without having to run the search again. This is a neat tool where marked pages could be revisited easily, and since they are gathered accordingly under related folders, managing our valuable time when browsing the Internet could not be simpler.

Furthermore, bookmarks could also be shared with other users. There are a number of websites that are growing in popularity serving this purpose. Bookmarking websites provide services that are beneficial for their members in terms of the availability of access to personal bookmarks from any browser or computer, and the possibility for them to share these bookmarks with others.  According to recent reports, websites such as Twitter, Yahoo!, StumbleUpon, and Delicious are amongst the top websites for ‘social bookmarking’, as this dynamic is called. It was stated that Twitter took the top spot with almost ninety million visitors monthly, Yahoo! with sixteen million, followed by fifteen million users visiting StumbleUpon, and around five and a half million visitors for Delicious.
